  1. Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Long Beach, California

  2. School -

I attended California State University, Long Beach for undergraduate and graduate work and the University of Southern California for my doctorate.  If high school is of interest, I attended Lakewood Senior High 🙂

  3. Special Interests

I am passionate about work that advances diversity and health equity initiatives encompassing students, faculty, trainees, staff, and the communities they serve.  I am particularly interested in championing initiatives, programs, and practices that support anti-racism, belonging, equity, and justice within academic medicine, health professions, and STEM education.

  4. Personal Interests -

I love all forms of creative expression.  I especially enjoy the performing arts and listening to live music.  Beyond the arts, I am fulfilled in the presence of my family and      friends, a good book, or an activity which inspires cultural exchange and giving back to my local community.

  1. Fun Fact about yourself -

I am a Columbo fan. Yes, the American crime drama television series from the 1970's.  Perhaps it's the problem-solving, rotating artist/musician cameos, or the glimpses of historical landmarks across the Los Angeles area that drew me in.  Other than my partner, I am glad to know that I am not alone, there is an entire #Columbo community.

  1. Why did you choose UCI?

Although I joined the UCI Family in 2016, my affiliation with the UCI School of Medicine began many years earlier in my work with medical students and board preparation in the 90's.  In many ways, I feel my return to UCI has brought my career full circle with an increased capacity to be of service towards inclusive excellence in medicine.  In all of my experiences, I have found the community of UCI faculty, students, and staff to be engaging, learner-centered, and supportive.

  1. Future plans?

I look forward to leading efforts in the establishment of the UCI School of Medicine- Office of Belonging, Equity, and Empowerment (BEE), working collaboratively on URiM pathway and health equity initiatives within the department of Family Medicine and beyond, all while supporting a multitude of efforts towards greater inclusion, equity, and connectedness across the UCI Health enterprise.

  1. Anything else you'd like to share about yourself?

I welcome opportunities to exchange ideas and interests- if you have a concept or thought you would like to share, please do not hesitate to reach out to me- Let's talk about it!
